Today marks 80 years since Victory over Japan Day – the end of World War II. Here in Dornoch, we’re commemorating the occasion with a full day of events for all ages, with moments of solemn reflection and joyful celebration.

πŸŽ–οΈ What’s On Today?

  • 09:00 – Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial (wreaths/posies welcome)

  • 10:00 – 1940s-themed coffee morning at the West Church Hall

  • 11:30 – Children’s fancy dress competition (1940s style) on Cathedral Green

  • 12:00 – National two minute silence

  • 14:00 – Paper crane making at the Carnegie Library

  • 17:00 – Quiet reflection at St Finbarr’s Church

  • 18:30 – Ringing of the bells for peace

  • 19:00 – Evening celebration at the Cadogan Lifeboat Station:

    β€ƒβ€ƒπŸ° Buffet & 1940s quiz
    β€ƒβ€ƒπŸ“œ WW2 local history exhibition

  • 21:30 – Lighting of the Beacon for Peace, accompanied by a lone piper and cannon fire
